How are International GCSEs marked and graded?
From 2018, International GCSEs will start to use a new 9 to 1 grading scale.
Learn more about the move to 9–1
International GCSEs are linear qualifications, which means you take all of the exams in the same exam session, usually at the end of your course. You are awarded raw marks for each exam paper and any coursework that you've completed. These marks are combined, taking into account any weightings for individual components, to give an overall mark. The weighting for each component can be found in the specification, which you'll find on each International GCSE subject page.
Once all of the exam papers have been marked, our senior examiners decide where the grade boundaries should be and you are awarded a grade based on where your mark lies within these boundaries.
