FAQs
The questions and answers below have been compiled in response to feedback from teachers in schools and colleges using the Mocks Service and to provide additional support with the requirements to make entries for your students.
The three levels of the Mocks Service are:
- Paper-based (UK schools and colleges only)
- Onscreen
- Moderation
Please see our document for more details of each service.
GCSE assessments are available for the onscreen service in Maths, English and Computer Science and for the paper-based service* in Maths, English, Science, History, Geography, Computer Science and Modern Languages. Please download the full Mocks Service assessment list and codes you will need to make your entries.

*The paper-based service is only available for UK schools and colleges.

We will review the subjects offered as the service grows.
This service will give you detailed item level analysis from your students' mocks through ResultsPlus but not student grades.
However, in support to GCSE Mathematics, indicative grades have been produced that can be used as guidance to student grades for GCSE Mathematics Secure Mocks and can be found here.
Download our exam availability document to see which papers are available, and the codes you'll need to make your entries.
This is not something we are able to accommodate for marking service, however, please visit our Moderation page for more information on submitting your papers to us.
All your centres can sit mocks at the same time and there is the functionality within ResultsPlus for you to view and compare the analysis from all your trusts’ centres in one place.
Each centre within your Multi Academy Trust will be invoiced individually.
The Mocks Service is not currently available to non-Pearson Edexcel approved centres. We aim to make this service available to all centres soon.
The mocks will be marked by our expert examining team. Our examining team will follow a standardisation process, as they do for the live exams, to ensure all exams are marked to the same standard.
The overarching purpose of the Pearson Edexcel Mocks Service is to support schools and colleges with teacher workload and student progression. Pearson Edexcel centres will be able to use the candidate mock results to gain an understanding of students’ knowledge of the content assessed at the time of them taking their mock exams.
The paper or onscreen assessments will be marked by our expert pool of examiners. This means this service may be used towards evidence to support teachers’ judgements and you can be confident that the exam papers have had the mark scheme applied in the same way as if the students had taken the live examination. We can confirm that the data from this service will be kept discrete from information about any candidate exam entries and will not be used to override teachers’ overall judgements at any stage.
Our standard SLA to provide results is 14 days from when we receive the papers. You will receive an email confirming we have received the papers and an email once results are available to view in ResultsPlus.
Where possible, please return all your student scripts for a qualification and paper at the same time. This should be as soon as you can after they’ve sat their mock exams.
Please return your scripts by your chosen courier. We recommend 25 scripts per bag and that you use a tracked courier service.
Please use your own labels and the return address, which is:
FAO: Pearson Mocks Service
Fretwell Road
Hellaby Industrial Estate
Hellaby
South Yorkshire
S66 8HN
We’re really grateful that you would like to get involved with the service, we are closely monitoring the growth of the service and will be in contact with our examining team as demand for the service grows and we require additional examiners.
Please contact the Customer Services team for Qualifications via our ‘Contact Us’ form. Please refer to the Mocks Service in your communication.
Marked scripts are retuned as PDFs for centres to print. They will not be annotated. You will be able to analyse your students' performances on ResultsPlus.
International schools have a different process for paper-based orders as we cannot deliver the papers outside of the UK. Centres may print the papers in-house and sit the exam. Electronic copies of the mock papers can be downloaded in the Pearson qualifications website. Please liaise with your Examinations Officer to gain access to a copy of the required paper and print the required number of copies in-house. Where this concerns any unseen content, we will send you a PDF copy of the paper via Secure File Transfer for you to print out. You will be given access to a SharePoint site and instructions of how to access it.
Once the students have sat the exam, you will need to scan the papers and upload it into a folder within an internal Pearson PLC SharePoint site using a link that will be shared with you. Afterwards, we will provide you a scanning guidance that is required to be followed when scanning the papers and uploading to SharePoint.
There are no specific grade boundaries for any Secure Mocks Set Maths (Mock set 7, 8 or 9) as these do not go through an awarding process. We do have indicative grade boundaries for GCSE Maths that centres can use and these are available on the qualifications website:
When we receive the papers, these are pulled apart for scanning hence we are unable to return the hard copies. However, the digital copies of the papers can be downloaded via the Booking App under the Access to Scripts tab. Please see the Mocks Entry Guide, p17, How do I access my students’ scripts?
You may read this knowledge article and see if any of your concerns were indicated.
If the article and troubleshooting does not work, you may raise a ticket and the appropriate team can assist you.
If you need the marking results immediately, please send an email to assessmentservices@pearson.com with your centre number, centre name, subject/paper code(s) to get the results extract.
Make sure you have downloaded the template sheet for uploading candidates. Fill out the template sheet with the candidate details (no special characters such as symbols, accent marks, and punctuation marks are allowed in the names). Follow the format of the date of birth (dd/mm/yyyy). Save it as a CSV (Comma delimited) file (.csv). For a more detailed step-by-step on uploading candidate details, please see the Mocks Entry Guide, p9, How to upload candidate details?
Centres may put a temporary cover over the front page on the day of the exam but kindly avoid tampering with it. Stapling a temporary cover is acceptable but it needs to be removed once the papers are sent back to us for scanning.
Any student who was absent from the exam can take the exam at any time, even if they have been marked as absent on the invigilator platform. All the students will need to do is log in and start the assessment. Now the assessment has been started for all previous students, unless you pause the assessment, those candidates who will log in later will be able to access the assessment straight away without having to wait for the invigilator to start. If you wish to control the start time of the exam, you will need to pause the assessment and release when students are ready to take the exam.
A private candidate can use the mock service if they are entered through a school. The direct consumer is no longer available in the mock service. They will have to be entered through a centre if they want to use the service. Our mock service is only available to schools.

A list of papers we offer through our Moderation Service can be view on our Moderation page.
Please liaise with your Examinations Officer to gain access to a copy of the required paper and print the required number of copies in-house.
Your papers will be moderated by our expert moderating team who will follow a standardisation process to ensure all papers are moderated to the same standard.
Our standard SLA to release results is 21 days from when we received the papers. A SharePoint folder with report and results will be shared with you once available.
Papers can be posted back to us so we can scan and reconcile the papers ourselves using the address and details indicated in this guidance document. A confirmation email will be sent once we have received the papers. If posting the papers to us is going to be an issue, please get in contact with us on assessmentservices@pearson.com so we can agree on an alternative way.
The moderated scripts are returned as PDFs for centre to print out. As part of Moderation Service the script will be annotated where appropriate.
Depending on your cohort size, we advise submitting a sample of around 10-15% for moderation.
If your marked cohort size is over 200 candidates, we recommend that you submit a larger sample I.e. 25%.
For compiling a sample, we advise to select a range of low, mid and top marks as well as including a script with the highest and lowest mark.
Please check the front covers of the paper scripts before you send them to Pearson, to ensure the candidate information provided is correct.
Please make sure the candidate name on the exam front cover matches the candidate entry.
You are only required to submit entries for students in your sample.
If you have 100 students that you have marked mocks for and are planning to submit 15% of this, only submit entries for the 15 students that you will be sending to Pearson for moderation.
Entries made via the Booking App, should only be for candidates in your sample. Please make sure candidate details when making the entry match the details on the front cover of the exam paper.
For moderation, we don’t provide marks on all questions. The moderator only indicates a moderated mark if they disagree with the centre mark. If no change is made, then the centre mark remains.
Please click on the ‘Forgotten password’ link on the bookings screen. This will ask you to reconfirm the email you registered with and will email a link that will allow your password to be reset.
Please contact our customer services team who, after completing security checks, will be able to confirm the email address for making entries with you.
The registration email for entries will be sent to the email address which was submitted on our Intention to Offer form. If you wish to change the email address linked to your account for making entries for our Mocks Service, you will be given this option during your registration. This is the only opportunity to change the email address linked to your administrative account.
The candidate ID can be any 4-digit number you choose. Each candidate entered for a mock series must be given a unique candidate number which we recommend you use across all of the papers they're entered for in a mock series within an academic year. Please avoid using zeros at the beginning of your candidate IDs, for example, 0041.
This is not a required field so you don’t have to add a Purchase Order number when you’re making your candidate entries.
Each centre within your trust will need to make entries individually with a unique email address attached to your centre’s bookings.
If you have registered but didn’t bookmark the link, you can access the mock entries at the link below.
> Access the Mocks Services platform.

For paper-based mocks, you do not have to inform us if the candidate requires exra time.
If a candidate requires extra time for onscreen mocks, allocate extra time from the bookings screen. This option can be accessed from the right-hand side of the candidate entry by selecting the three vertical dots. Extra time can be added up until the mock series start date.
Select 'Extra Time' and enter a value in either the ‘Percentage’ or the ‘Extra time in minutes’ field. Then select ‘Set extra time’ to confirm the extra time you wish to assign.
Note: When you enter a value in the ‘Percentage’ field, it will automatically calculate the number of minutes this equates to based upon the assessment’s duration. It will automatically populate the ‘Extra time in minutes’ field with this value.

You need to fill out the form per candidate and we will have the paper/s reviewed by our markers. If the marks for the paper has changed after the review, this will be free of charge to you. However, if there are no indicated changes in the marks after the review, this will cost £10 per candidate and includes feedback from the marker/reviewer.
