These materials have been gathered together to help provide opportunities for skills practice on some of the mathematics topics within the content of the Mathematics in Context specification. None of the questions is intentionally written in the style of Mathematics in Context exam questions. They may be useful for classroom discussion, group work and/or individual practice on some of the mathematics skills within the specification.
Twelve context-led topics have been chosen to show the wide range of applications of mathematics. Through these topics, the content of the specification can be brought out.
We’ve listed the assumed knowledge for Mathematics in Context, which is all the Foundation tier content from GCSE Mathematics 2015. We’ve also provided references to GCSE Mathematics 2010.
This shows the content of Mathematics in Context mapped from GCSE Mathematics 2015, GCSE Mathematics 2010, GCSE Statistics and A level Mathematics.
These materials are designed to support teaching and learning of mathematical comprehension skills. They may be used for classroom discussion, teaching and learning and/or student practice. They provide comprehension practice on four topics and come with teacher notes, comprehension passage and questions, mark scheme and one or more spreadsheets.
Pearson produced free chapter pdfs in the style of the popular GMED series to supplement the GMED 2010 coverage, and to provide support for the GCSE Linked Pair Pilot centres.
A number of the chapters are relevant to Core Maths. We’ve provided a mapping document which lists the relevant chapters and maps them to the Mathematics in Context content. The file also includes accompanying spreadsheets and teacher notes.
The Core Maths Support Programme is providing resources in six strands for teaching Core Maths. These are independent of any single exam board, while relevant for all the proposed Core Maths qualifications.
