Finally, a review of marking of the exam paper by a senior examiner.

International Certificate post-results services FAQs

Appeals for the PEIC qualification (paper-based assessments) are processed in line with the appeals process detailed in the JCQ Guide to the Awarding Bodies’ Appeals Processes.

The JCQ document explains the 2-stage appeals process; a preliminary appeal followed by an appeal hearing (where required). It also explains the different appeal types: (marking/moderation appeal; malpractice appeal; and, reasonable adjustment, access arrangement or special consideration appeal.

The timescales for appealing are: 30 calendar days from the outcome of a review of marking or 14 calendar days from a malpractice or reasonable adjustment, access arrangement or special consideration decision. Appeals made outside of these timescales will not usually be accepted. A review of marking/moderation must have been completed prior to the submission of a marking/moderation appeal.

Appeals for PEIC qualifications can only be submitted by the centre and cannot be submitted directly to us by the student or their parent/representative (other than for Private Candidates).

The fees for appeals are published on the Fees tab of our Post Results Services webpage. We do not apply the fee in cases where we uphold the appeal.

Applications to appeal can be submitted using our appeals webform. We do not accept emailed or postal appeals.

Centres or Private Candidates who wish to make an appeal related to the Pearson English International Certificate (PEIC) Computer based assessments or PTE Academic assessments should follow the separate appeals process.
