April 2024 Languages Update

I hope you have had a restful break and are ready for the summer term. As languages teachers you will likely be conducting speaking exams early on this term so I have made sure to include all the speaking exam support you may need at the very start of this update.

There are no materials sent to the centre for the International GCSE Languages exams. All that is required is the randomisation grid which can be downloaded by exams officers only from the June 2024 section of the Exam Materials page for each qualification.
Speaking exam conduct and admin support videos
Earlier in the year I shared these support videos made for GCSE and GCE A Level speaking assessments. If you are preparing to conduct these exams, now would be a good time to watch them as a refresher.
We are pleased to share with you our specimen assessment materials for GCSE French (2024). These provide a second set of sample papers for you to familiarise yourself with the new specification and can be used with students. Spanish and German will follow.

For those of you who haven’t yet been able to attend a GRTT event (either face to face or our 3 online modules) we have created this playlist on YouTube. You may also find this helpful for a recap or sharing with colleagues.
When more GRTT dates are added you will be able to sign up for them for free.
Proactive Associate Modern Foreign Languages
For those of you who will be working with us on the 2024 GCSEs in 2026 and beyond we have something new for you.
More information on this digital credential provided by Credly will be coming soon. In short, it is a way of recognising the work you are doing to familiarise yourself with the 2024 specification and ensure you are prepared not only to teach it but to examine it too. Once you’ve earned this badge you could use it in job applications, performance reviews or as evidence of the professional development you have completed.

I am also providing some sessions focused on the Paper 3 Independent Research Project for A Level (French, Spanish, German, Chinese, Italian and Russian). These are informal sessions where I will go over the requirements of this part of the exam and take your questions. Please join me if you're new to this exam, have questions you'd like answered or just want a refresher.
