Close Protection Top Up: Delivery Options

A reminder that there are a number of different delivery options permitted for the Close Protection Top Up qualification that may reduce the number of days over which the course must be delivered.  Any change to the standard delivery over a minimum of 5 days must be approved by your SV before it is implemented.

Delivery Options:

  • Principles of Terror Threat Awareness unit can be delivered by e-learning
  • Principles of Working as a Door Supervisor for Close Protection Operatives unit can be delivered via self-study - before you can use this option, you need to submit your self-study materials to your SV to review and confirm they are fit for purpose
  • If you are using the same approved provider for the Doors Physical Intervention and Close Protection Physical Intervention units, you can map the Doors PI unit to the CP PI unit and highlight where there may be some delivery efficiencies for the CP PI unit.  The Doors unit must be delivered in full first, and then it may be permissible to have reduced delivery time for the CP PI unit.  You must have approval in writing for this from the PI provider, and this must be submitted to your SV.  (Note: This is referred to as ‘PI mapping time dispensation’ in the table below.)

The table below summarises the delivery options and the minimum number of days for each:

Alternative Site Authorisation Request Form

We recently reminded centres about the requirements for delivering Security courses at alternative or additional sites. In order to make the process easier for centres there is now an Alternative Site Authorisation Request Form available on our website for you to use: Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry | Course materials

The form includes all the details of the evidence that you are required to submit with your request. You can now use this form to submit your request for authorisation to deliver at an alternative site via our Customer Portal.

Get Training

Please be aware that the SIA has just released an updated version of Get Training.  Please ensure you use the most up to date version, dated March 2023, from now onwards. The SIA has removed the previous version of the document from their website and will upload the current version shortly. The up to date version is available to download from our website here: SIA Get Training | Requirements

ID Requirements

A reminder that learners must provide centres with two forms of identification as per the SIA acceptable documents list - i.e. 1 from Group A and 2 from Group B. Centres must keep a record of which documents they have reviewed and accepted for each learner. Learners must provide one Group A document from the SIA list of acceptable ID documents before they can sit the knowledge assessments.

Course Register of Attendance

A reminder that centres must keep detailed registers that include start/end/break times of training for each day. Learners must sign these daily. If digital registers are used, learners must sign these daily, it is not acceptable for centres to reuse a stored digital learner signature. The register should include a record of any late arrivals/early leavers and how these learners made up the required hours which they missed.
