This update contains the latest news about BTEC Performing Arts.
DfE Performance Measures for Performing Arts for 2020
BTEC Tech Award in Performing Arts
Good news - the BTEC Tech Award in Performing Arts is on Key Stage 4 performance measures (2020 results).
BTEC Firsts in Performing Arts
As our BTEC First Award in Performing Arts is no longer on Key Stage 4 performance measures (2020 results), you can continue to deliver this qualification (and the larger sizes) but they will no longer count on performance measures.
Changes for 'narrow' miss passes at BTEC Level 3
Ofqual has published an open letter encouraging Awarding Organisations to "consider changes" to their level 3 Applied General and Tech Level qualifications "to provide a safety net for students who narrowly miss a pass on one or more externally-assessed units."
This means that learners can now pass the overall BTEC National qualification without having to achieve a Pass grade in every externally assessed set test and task. However, they can only do this if they narrowly miss the Pass grade, and if they still achieve enough points throughout the qualification.
We will be able to provide more information on how these changes may affect your Performing Arts students from the 4th April onwards.
BTEC Awards Showstopper Challenge 2018
Have your BTEC Performing Arts students always dreamed of performing live on stage?
Then the Showstopper Challenge is their time to shine!
This is a great opportunity to showcase their talents in front of fellow students, teachers, parents and celebrities. We’ll invite the winners to perform at this year’s BTEC Awards in July.
What's the theme this year?
The theme is The Power of Voice.
We’re looking for singers, dance groups, musicians, comedians, film makers, spoken word (e.g. rap, poetry, monologue) and theatre-style performances which celebrate the power of having – and expressing – your voice.
How does it work?
It’s easy to submit your entry – we look at every application and select three successful acts who can be individuals or groups.
Competition closes on Friday 20 April 2018 , entries after this date will not be accepted.
New Tech Level Extended Certificate in Performing Arts
We have a new Tech Level qualification in Performing Arts available for first teaching from September 2018.
This is a specialist qualification designed to provide post-16 learners with a technical introduction to their chosen field of study. There are three Tech Level Extended Certificate qualifications to choose from:
- Acting
- Dance
- Musical Theatre
We expect to hear from DfE in the summer term about the inclusion of this qualification in the 2020 performance tables.
QCF qualifications in Production Arts and Performing Arts extensions
We’ve changed the registration date for all BTEC Nationals (2010 - QCF) to 31 December 2019. This means you can register your learners on these qualifications up to this date.
