Update on BTEC grading review in the UK

You may have seen our announcement to UK centres, providing an update on BTEC grading, following Ofqual’s announcement that A level and GCSE students are to receive Centre Assessment Grades.

We would like to reassure you that this grading review does not apply to international centres and students. This is because many international centres were able to complete assessment without the need for calculating results.

In the few instances where results were calculated for units/assessments due to be completed between late March and end of July, we were able to continue to support international centres with remote verification. No Centre Assessment Grades were adjusted downwards for international centres, as we were able to provide this quality assurance.

We have been able to work closely with you to ensure these are the right outcomes for learners. This means there is no need to review the BTEC grades awarded for international centres. The results are already in line with the principles being adopted by Ofqual for A levels and GCSEs, and now for BTEC qualifications in the UK.

We thank you for your collaboration and support with the activity this summer.

Please contact us if you have any questions.

Best wishes,
