Update on BTEC grade review and awarding

Fri Aug 28 11:33:00 UTC 2020

I’d like to update you all on the BTEC grade review. We said we would process all eligible results by Friday 28 August and since that announcement my teams have been working around the clock to do so. We have now reviewed and regraded eligible BTEC grades for around 450,000 learners and I’d like to congratulate all those students who have worked so hard to achieve these results.

We know the review, and the knock-on delay to publishing BTEC results, has caused stress and anxiety for learners, parents and teachers and for that we are truly sorry.

This decision was taken with the best interests of your BTEC students at heart – following Ofqual’s decision to award Centre Assessed Grades for A Levels and GSCEs, we had to ensure that BTEC learners would not be disadvantaged in comparison to their peers this year.

As some of you may also be aware, every year there are learners who receive their results later than others and this staggered awarding of results happens each year. This is because with a BTEC, students can enroll, study and complete units at a pace that suits them, which might not always follow the academic year and can be up to five years from the time that they register.  If you have learners still due to complete units for their BTEC qualification and you would like to speak with us, please do so using the contact details below.

It would not have been possible to deliver results this week without the collaboration and support from exams officers, heads of department, college principals, teachers, lecturers and other teaching professionals who have worked tirelessly alongside us to resolve issues and points for clarification. We know this is an extremely busy time for you with students returning to schools and colleges and we don’t underestimate the many demands on your time.

We’d like to say an additional thank you to those schools and colleges who are continuing to work with us to resolve any outstanding queries and support students. As always, we appreciate and value your support, advice and feedback.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us

Best wishes,
