Extensions to BTEC Level 1 and Level 2 First Awards in England and Northern Ireland

We are pleased to announce that the following BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Awards are being extended in England and Northern Ireland to a last registration date of 31 December 2021 and final certification date of 31 December 2023. The previously published dates were 31 December 2019 and 31 December 2021 respectively.

Only the seven asterisked (*) First Awards have been approved for 2020, 2021 and 2022 Key Stage 4 Performance Tables in England.

All of these BTEC First Awards will continue to contribute towards GCSE performance in schools in Northern Ireland.

  • 600/4785/9 Performing Arts

  • 600/4787/2 Principles of Applied Science

  • 601/0926/9 Public Services

  • 600/4779/3 Sport (2018 revised version)*

  • 600/6512/6 Travel and Tourism (2018 revised version)*

The DfE reserves the right to remove a qualification from Performance Tables if it no longer meets the required characteristics or if policy changes mean it is no longer eligible for inclusion.

BTEC First Award withdrawals

The three qualifications below will be withdrawn in England and Northern Ireland. The last registration date is 31 December 2019 and the final certification date is 31 December 2021:
