New level 1 QCF qualification for labourers
We plan to develop a new Level 1 QCF qualification for labourers, linking to achievement of the Green Card, and we need your help!
The planned four-credit knowledge qualification will become a mandatory requirement for workers seeking to achieve their Green Card to work as labourers in the construction sector.
The qualification will include knowledge specified as essential by the Health and Safety Executive in consultation with CITB (the Construction Industry Training Board), in the following areas:
- risk assessment
- manual handling
- working at height
- health issues
- working safely around plant.
It's intended to roll out fully in early 2014 (pilot in September 2013), and aims to improve the health and safety knowledge of new workers, reducing risks to themselves and their employers as well as improving the rigour and standing of the card scheme in the industry. A QCF qualification will encourage progression to Level 2 qualifications, and it's hoped that it will lead to lower staff turnover and greater retention of qualified staff in the industry.
We're currently consulting on the development of assessment and resources and would very much like your views on this, as delivery centres. Please take a moment to complete our survey.
