Geography in the News aims to stimulate discussion about the relevance of geography to our lives and its importance in helping us to make sense of the world around us. In this edition we have selected an article about the recent winter wildfires in Los Angeles, California that examines why they could be set for increase both in intensity and frequency.

Updated: A level Geography AI guidance

In response to feedback from teachers, we have published guidance to clarify the rules around the use of artificial intelligence in the Pearson Edexcel Geography Non-Examination Assessment (NEA).

Summary

ChatGPT and other large language models have the capability to be used as research tools but also to generate fieldwork investigations based on simple prompts provided by candidates or carry out analysis of fieldwork information and data provided by candidates. AI has the ability to automate tasks, make predictions, and recognise patterns. It is important that centres, their examination officers, teachers, and candidates have an awareness of what is acceptable use of AI in NEA submissions. Teachers must ensure that any AI use is acceptable before the work is authenticated and submitted.
