I would like to share an update with you, as following close discussions with the Department for Education, awarding bodies and other stakeholders, Ofqual has today announced further information about how some vocational and technical qualifications will be awarded in 2020.

Update on the dispatch of certificates and hard copy results
Due to the impact of Covid-19 (Coronavirus), we are aware some centres have closed, so we have decided to hold the dispatch of all certificates and hard copy results documents for LCCI, PTE, BTEC and General Qualifications until further notice.

Update on Post-16 Level 3 and below qualification with low and no enrolments in work-based learning
At the end of February 2020 we shared the ESFA’s plans to remove funding for post-16 level 3 and below qualifications with low and no enrolments, after 31 July 2021. This affects 16-18 year-olds on study programmes, and 19+ year-olds funded under the Adult Education Budget, the European Social Fund (ESF), or accessing Advanced Learner Loans.

We would like to share an update about our Healthcare End Point Assessments (EPAs). Following discussions with Ofqual and IfATE , as well as other stakeholders, we are now able to apply discretions to enable learners to complete their observation component remotely.

Updated clarification for learners on assignments and calculated grades
We have received a number of queries from learners asking whether we expect assessment to continue whilst they study from home. Our expectation is that centres will continue to provide teaching and learning of as much of the BTEC specification unit content as is possible and carry out teacher based assessments (e.g. worksheets, questions, activities etc) to help prepare learners for the next stage of their journey.

Update on Functional Skills legacy extension
Ofqual has also confirmed that the legacy Functional Skills qualifications in English and Maths have been extended and the last certification date is now the 31st December 2020. This will allow your learners on these qualifications additional time to complete, especially the learners you have judged not to have been ready to complete as part of the calculated results process.

Functional Skills guidance on calculated grades for assessments in Summer 2020
Following the UK government’s decision to cancel examinations this summer, and the restrictions on movement to combat the virus, Ofqual is making arrangements for awarding organisations to issue qualifications to learners where appropriate. Ofqual has published a consultation on their proposed approach to vocational and technical qualifications (VTQs). Ofqual has also published a document providing advice for teachers, tutors, parents and carers.

Update on Customer Services End-point Assessments
Following notification from the EQA Provider, OFQUAL, Pearson have been allowed to apply additional flexibility in the observation component of the Customer Service Practitioner Level 2 and Customer Service Specialist Level 3 End Point Assessment Standard.

IFATE announce flexibility on Functional Skills for EPA
The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IFATE) have announced further flexibilities with regards to apprentices undertaking end-point assessment, whilst awaiting results for calculated grades. This flexibility will apply from the 22 May 2020.
