Functional Skills guidance on calculated grades for assessments in Summer 2020
Following the UK government’s decision to cancel examinations this summer, and the restrictions on movement to combat the virus, Ofqual is making arrangements for awarding organisations to issue qualifications to learners where appropriate. Ofqual has published a consultation on their proposed approach to vocational and technical qualifications (VTQs). Ofqual has also published a document providing advice for teachers, tutors, parents and carers.
Ofqual's aims are:
- to ensure students can receive grades in these qualifications this summer so they can progress to the next stages of their lives without further disruption
- that the grades will be as valued as those of any other year
- that the approach will be fair.
We have produced some documents to summarise our guidance for Pearson Functional Skills, ESNI and ESOL qualifications which fall into the scope of the consultation. The information in these documents will help you to consider what this means for you and your learners. Please do note that this information is subject to the outcomes of the consultation any further directions from Ofqual and the Secretary of State.
