As a result of discussions with the qualifications regulator in England, Ofqual, it has been confirmed that the Pearson BTEC International Level 2 qualifications in Beauty Therapy will be included on the Ofqual register of regulated qualifications for a limited period.

Which qualifications are included?

We can confirm that the following BTEC International Level 2 qualifications are included in the Ofqual register for a limited period:

  • Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Extended Certificate in Beauty Therapy Services
  • Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy

The only other BTEC International Level 2 subject that is now also included on the Ofqual register is:

  • Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design

All other subjects remain on the Pearson Self-regulated Framework.

Will there be changes to these qualifications?

There will be no changes to the specification content or assessment of these qualifications. This will therefore have no impact on teaching, learning or expectations for students. You can be confident that there is no action to be taken from the centre.

The only change that will be evident to centres and learners is that the qualification certificates issued to learners will carry the Ofqual logo and Qualification Number (QN) for a period of time. The change will be applied with immediate effect.

Existing student registrations on the Beauty Therapy qualifications made up to 30 September 2016 (that have not already certificated) will result in an Ofqual-regulated student certificate. Registrations on the Beauty Therapy International BTEC made after 30 September 2016 will be on award code (22101 and 22102) and will not result in an Ofqual regulated certificate.

Students that take any other BTEC International Level 2 subjects, other than the ones listed above, will continue to receive their results for these on the existing non-Ofqual certificate.
