This time of year can be very intense yet rewarding, and we are here to support you every step of the way. As always, we continue to welcome any feedback on how we can improve our qualifications and processes to ensure the best outcomes and experiences for your learners and yourselves as educators.

This update is full of resources to support your delivery, assessment and submission of work as we near the end of this assessment series. I will also ensure to include relevant information for Results Days and help you prepare for these important dates for learners.

Once learner work has been moderated, we will send you a draft moderator report. This will be sent to the exams officer and quality nominee in your centre. Please make sure these details are up to date on Edexcel Online so you don’t experience a delay.

You can also view your moderator’s details in Edexcel Online if you need to contact them. You will then be able to amend any learner marks until the 28 June following your moderator’s feedback.

To make a certification claim for BTEC Tech Award you need to submit a cash-in code.

For learners sitting the terminal external assessment this May, the cash-in code should be submitted at the same time their entry is made for the terminal component. If you don’t submit a cash-in code, then learners won’t receive an overall qualification result in summer.

Read our certification FAQs

View the list of cash-in codes

If you’ve not submitted a cash-in for summer, you should do this no later than the 5 July to guarantee learners receive their result in August. You can still submit cash-ins through EDI until 2 May, and through Edexcel Online now until 5 July.

Watch our short interactive tutorial on submitting cash-ins on Edexcel Online

The terminal assessment rule requires learners to take the external assessment at the end of their qualification (the series in which the learner certificates). This means that learners must sit internal component assessments either prior to or in the same series as the external assessment to fulfil this terminal rule.

If a learner chooses to retake an internal assessment in a series after they sat the terminal external assessment, they will also need to resit the external component to satisfy the terminal rule.

Learners are allowed one retake of each internal component, and one resit of the external assessment within the programme.

Watch our video about retaking assessments

We will be using our Learner Work Transfer system in the Summer 2024 series to manage the submission of learners' work for BTEC Level 3 National in Art and Design (2016) Unit 1: Visual Recording & Communications (31827H).

You will no longer be required to upload learner work to SharePoint or send in physical work.

Learner Work Transfer ensures learner data is as protected and secure as possible. It will be familiar to many of you as a system you’ve used for Standards Verification, for our general qualifications and for many of our other BTEC qualifications.

We are currently in the process of redeveloping our BTEC National Art, Design and Media qualifications. We regularly revisit our qualifications over a number of years, to ensure that they are up to date and meet the needs of learners in the current context of the subject.

The remaining 2010 QCF qualifications in Creative Media Production have a final registration date of August 2024. From September 2024, here are the available options for new learners:

  • 2016 Nationals in Creative Digital Media Production are a direct replacement for the QCF qualification sizes, with specialist titles offered. These include external assessment and are on performance tables

  • 2019 Nationals in Creative Media Practice is available in Foundation Diploma and Extended Diploma sizes. It has no specialist titles or optional units, however technical content is selected by the centre so you can design the specific programme you want to offer. 100% internally assessed, but not on performance tables

Both suites will be defunded in August 2026 and replaced by new AAQs as part of the government Level 3 reforms. New AAQs will align with the 2019 qualifications in structure, but will include external assessment to meet new DfE and Ofqual regulatory requirements.

The Pearson Set Assignments (PSAs) for internally assessed components are available to download from the qualification Course Materials page under the ‘Pearson Set Assignment’ drop-down menu within the Internal Assessments category.

The PSAs are valid for one year after the date published. You may use whichever PSA you prefer and the additional PSA is intended as a backup for any retakes required.

The PSAs are secure materials, and you will need an Edexcel Online login (EOL) to access this. EOL accounts are managed by the centre Exams Officer / EOL Administrator. If, as a teacher, you need an EOL login please talk to your Exams Officer who will be able to get you set up.

Please note that as an additional step for securing customer and learner data we have now introduced our new app-based multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all users of Edexcel Online, replacing the email-based MFA. The app is now mandatory to access Edexcel Online via the Pearson Portal. If you've not done so already, you'll need to download the Pearson authenticator app to a smart device (such as a smart phone) to continue to access Edexcel online via the Pearson Portal.
