It has been a busy school year so far and I hope you are able to find balance and respite within your workload. It has been wonderful supporting everyone and we are making use of your feedback to continue to drive improvements, as outlined below, so keep the comments and questions coming!

I have also enjoyed meeting lots of you during the different training, events, conferences, and meetings we have had and hope to meet more of you in-person during our upcoming face-to-face training for GCSE and A Level. As the term progresses, remember to take time for yourselves and if you need any help with any of our Art, Design and Media qualifications, please make sure you reach out to me and the team using the contact details below.

  A Level and GCSE Updates

Check out our new series of bitesize videos for A Level Art and Design to help you evidence and assess the Assessment Objectives. 

Check out our new series of bitesize videos for GCSE Art and Design to help you evidence and assess the Assessment Objectives. 

International GCSE Art and Design bitesize videos are currently being developed and will be included in future updates once published.

In our face-to-face sessions teachers will have the opportunity to mark actual Component 1 and Component 2 portfolios across a range of titles and levels from the most recent exam series, with senior members of the examining team guiding them through assessment decisions. 

GCSE events will take place in London, Birmingham and York, whilst A level events will take place in London and York. 

We are also launching a series of network events to meet with relevant experts and discuss questions and ideas for our qualifications.

There are a wide range of support materials available on the course materials pages that can help guide you through planning, delivery and assessment. 

The Principal Moderator / Examiner reports discuss the quality of work submitted in the series, including helpful feedback and recommendations for future series.

Check out our new Exemplar Libraries for A Level and GCSE Art and Design, a gallery view of our student exemplars organised by performance level. Designed with teachers and access in mind, it is a great way to assess and standardise internally.

This library will continue to be updated and improved with a range of titles and performance levels so watch this space!

The International GCSE Art and Design gallery is currently in the works, with new exemplars for slide submissions and a range of titles coming soon.

  BTEC Level 3 Nationals

We are currently in the process of redeveloping our BTEC National Art, Design and Media qualifications. We regularly revisit our qualifications over a number of years, to ensure that they are up to date and meet the needs of learners in the current context of the subject.

If you sign up for Art, Design & Media updates, I will highlight upcoming training events, news and support available, including when drafts of these specifications are released.  

For now, you are able to continue to deliver the BTEC Level 3 National Art, Design and Media qualifications as normal and you can find more information in the links below.

  BTEC Higher Nationals

We have launched our new BTEC Higher Nationals qualifications for Art, Design and Media in September 2023 alongside our existing qualifications. Our aim is to give you more flexibility and scope when designing your curriculum so we hope you enjoy our new titles.
