Application for professional recognition through IOL membership

Learners who successfully complete the relevant size qualification will be able to gain IOL recognition in the outdoor learning sector. To do this, learners will need to complete the required IOL membership application process, including payment and provide evidence of having successfully completed the relevant BTEC qualification. IOL will then award the learner with a membership certificate that states their professional status which can be used when applying for relevant job roles in the ourdoor learning sector. 

To gain membership as a qualified Assistant Instructor, evidence of successful completion of the following qualifications after external quality assurance processes have taken place will need to be shown:

  • Extended Certificate
  • Foundation Diploma
  • Diploma
  • Extended Diploma

To gain membership as a qualified Instructor, evidence of successful completion of the following qualifications after external quality assurance processes have taken place will need to be shown:

  • Diploma
  • Extended Diploma

Further to this, recognition as an Associate Professional Registered Member of the Institute for Outdoor Learning is available to learners who have successfully completed the relevant size qualification and have occupational experience as an outdoor activity instructor of more than 180 days in the role.
