About the role
This apprenticeship has been designed to be taken by anyone wanting to work as a Senior Healthcare Support Worker.
The apprentice can specialise in a specific area, including, Adult Nursing Support Worker, Maternity Support Worker, Theatre Support Worker, Mental Health Support Worker, Allied Health Professions (Therapy Support Worker), Children and Young People Support Worker or Diagnostic Imaging Support Worker.

In order to meet the apprenticeship standard apprentices will be required to hold or achieve:
Qualification information prior to January 2023
Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support
- Minimum of Level 2 English
- Minimum of Level 2 maths
- Complete the 15 standards required by the Care Quality Commission
The on-programme pace will be driven by the apprentice as well as by the breadth of experience an employer can offer prior to the minimum of 18months, after which end-point assessment will take place.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support (2023)
Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the End-Point Assessment. For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, the apprenticeship’s English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3. A British Sign Language (BSL) qualification is an alternative to the English qualification for those whose primary language is BSL.
As both a vocational and academic awarding organisation, we can offer a wide range of English and maths qualifications in line with your standards’ requirements from Functional Skills through to GCSEs.

End-point assessment
As an ESFA-approved Assessment Organisation, we provide a full range of assessment services, resources and support from our experienced EPA team to equip you and your learners with the diverse requirements of the apprenticeship standards.
You can use Pearson as your end-point assessment organisation, regardless of whether you choose to use our on-programme offer or not.

There are three components that make up end-point assessment:

- An observation of practice
- An interview (supported by learning journal)
Each component of end-point assessment is graded. Apprentices will also receive a grade for the overall end-point assessment. This will be Pass/Merit/Distinction.

These specifications are a pre-regulated draft. Centres can use them in their preparation for EPA, however they must ensure they are replaced with the Issue 1 regulated specification when it is available.
The EPA Resource Pack referenced in the specifications will be available on to download from ACE360 from July (this is to enable us to ensure comprehensive guidance is in place to support apprentices, Training Providers and employers).

Important Information
The updated Assessment Plan for Senior Healthcare Support Worker (SHCSW) was approved and published by the Institute for Apprenticeships on 5 September 2018.
Any learners registered after 5 September 2018 will be required to undertake EPA with this assessment plan.
