November 2026 Economics update

Tue Oct 27 17:00:00 UTC 2026

Welcome to the November 2026 update.

In this month's update, we invite you to complete a short survey about a potential Level 3 Financial Literacy qualification and remind you about our after-school A level exam insights events for Economics A.

You'll also find free resources to trial from Econ Academy, along with the final IAL Economics timetable for October 2027.

The final item covers forthcoming changes to vocational qualifications that may complement or compete with the GCSE and A level qualifications in your centre.

Assessment support focuses on assessment news and tools, support in understanding the command verbs, and information about grade boundaries and statistics.

We are seeking feedback on a potential qualification in Financial Literacy, aimed primarily at KS5 learners. The qualification could be taken to gain additional UCAS points or as a part-time enrichment activity.

Please answer based on your current understanding and circumstances, recognising that your centre strategy may change as reforms are introduced next year. Many thanks for your feedback.

The after-school network events resume this year and we have already scheduled an event for each of the first two terms.

This recent podcast from the Institute for Fiscal Studies might be interesting for students in relation to:

  • Economics A: 2.6 and 4.5
  • Economics B: 2.6 and 4.4

We would welcome any feedback you may have on our FT case studies to help us improve these resources.

Economics class: teaching ideas

The FT panel of teacher advisors has also picked articles to help improve study, exam and interview success, with suggestions on questions for class activities and discussion.

We’ll be implementing a minor change to Pearson Edexcel A Level Economics B examinations from summer 2027 onwards.

Where examination materials have previously referred to small or medium-sized businesses by their real names, they will now be given substitute names to preserve their anonymity. Any supporting business data may also be adapted where necessary. This approach enables us to continue using authentic business scenarios whilst maintaining the validity and authenticity of assessment materials.

This change will have no impact on the knowledge, understanding or skills being assessed and students will not be advantaged or disadvantaged.

Importantly, examinations will continue to be firmly rooted in real-world economic contexts and scenarios. We will continue to name larger, well-known businesses where appropriate. Assessment materials will therefore continue to reflect real economic activity and issues.

This change is intended solely to support the responsible use of case material within assessments and will have no impact on specification content or assessment requirements.

A university teacher has built a free site for teaching economics called econ.academy.

The graphs are live, so students drag the curves and draw diagrams that get marked automatically, and there's a free class feature with a join code.

There is no paywall, and no account is needed for most of it.

Feedback can be sent to aras@examtex.com

A student who is largely home-schooled has produced some resources to help with his studies.  Parts of the specification content have been turned into musical soundbites. They are shared here at his request.

Please note that these resources have not been checked and are not endorsed by Pearson Edexcel.  The student brands himself as 'Econmyles' and you can view these resources on the following channels:
