Pearson Edexcel International GCSE in English as a Second Language (4XES2) is designed to measure achievement against the benchmarks of Levels A2 – B2 of the CEFR. Topics, contexts, and settings relate to the interests of learners using English as a second language for the purposes of communication in study, work, leisure, and issues of global/cultural relevance. 

It is a unitised qualification where individual unit assessments may be taken over a course of one or more examination series, or all unit assessments may be taken together at the end of the course of study in a single examination series. 

It is available to centres outside of the UK as well as to independent schools within the UK.
