January exam series for BTEC qualifications

As many learners prepare for the January series, I hope you have all the seen the Administrative Support Guides (ASG) for BTEC Nationals in Sport (2016) unit 2, unit 19 and unit 22 – they provide support and guidance about the external assessment process. For unit 2, 19 and 22 on the BTEC Nationals in Sport (2016) qualifications, Part A will be released on the website. The exam timetables for both January 2023 and Summer 2023 can be found on the website.

The future of Level 3 for Sport and sport and exercise Science

Please be reassured that you can continue to teach your BTECs with confidence, in this sector the key changes will be made in 2026/27 as consequence of the L3 reforms.

In anticipation of the redevelopment work for the reformed L3 BTEC qualifications in our sector we would like to invite you to join our Research Community to shape the qualifications of the future.

It's also important to remember that BTECs, alongside other providers of Applied Generals are all in the same position.

Sport has not been identified as a T level route, however all Sport qualifications will need to be resubmitted to DFE and OFQUAL against new criteria to be funded from September 2026. We are awaiting further guidance from the department - this is the last published guidance
