‘Citizenship Studies in the News’ aims to stimulate discussion for GCSE Citizenship Studies by considering contemporary issues and their relevance to our lives.
We have compiled a range of current news articles* and linked these to the key questions, explored in themes A-D of the specification. You may wish to investigate and integrate into your teaching practice to help contextualise key issues and bring the subject to life!
Edition 19 includes the following articles:
- Theme A: Article 1 is from The Independent. Article 2 is from The Standard. Both provide a data on the latest UK population projections.
- Theme B: Article 1 is from GBNews. Article 2 is from France24. These articles explore the the resignation of Keir Starmer and the UK has it's 7th PM in 10 years.
- Theme C: Article is from BBC News and looks at the murder of Henry Nowak.
- Theme D: Article 1 is from The Guardian. Article 2 is from Sky News Article 3 is from Ipsos. All articles report on the role of the media in Kier Starmer’s resignation, and the level of citizenship participation in choosing a new PM.
