About this role
This apprenticeship is for anyone wanting to work as a Healthcare Support Worker who wants to provide treatment and care for patients. Healthcare support workers work in a range of settings e.g. outpatients, A&E and community.

You can use Pearson as your end-point assessment organisation, regardless of whether you choose to use our on-programme offer or not.
The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education has announced Covid-19 temporary discretions for the three healthcare standards including this one. These agreed temporary discretions relate specifically to the observation assessment. Please see the guidance below:
There are three components that make up end-point assessment:
A multiple choice test
An observation of practice
Review of portfolio of evidence and an interview
Each component of end-point assessment is graded. Apprentices will also receive a grade for the overall end-point assessment. This will be Pass/Merit/Distinction.
Multiple choice test
The multiple choice test will be designed to cover all the knowledge requirements within the standard. Apprentices will have 60 minutes to answer 60 one mark questions, covering the following areas:
Communication
Health Interventions
Personal and People Development
Health, Safety and Security
Equality and Diversity
The test will be graded Fail/Pass/Merit/Distinction based on the number of marks achieved.
Observation of practice
The Independent Assessor will spend a minimum of 90 minutes observing the apprentice during their normal course of work in their normal workplace. The Independent Assessor will be observing the apprentice on:
Communicating effectively and handling information
Demonstrating person centred care and support
Treating people with dignity, respecting individual’s diversity, beliefs, culture, values, needs, privacy and preferences
Showing respect and empathy for those they work with; having the courage to challenge areas of concern, be adaptable, reliable and consistent
Working to best practice in carrying out delegated clinical duties
Showing discretion and self-awareness
Working as part of a team, seeking help and guidance when they are not sure
Maintaining a safe and healthy working environment
Using a range of techniques for infection prevention and control including waste management, hand wash and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Moving and positioning individuals, equipment and other items safely
The observation is ungraded above a pass.
Review of portfolio of evidence and interview
The interview will be between the Independent Assessor and the apprentice and will last for a minimum of 30 minutes. The purpose of the interview is to enable the apprentice to further showcase their knowledge, skills and behaviours from across the Standard.
This element will be graded Fail/Pass/Merit/Distinction.
