Geography in the News!

Geography in the News aims to stimulate discussion about the relevance of geography and its importance in helping us to make sense of the world around us. The tragic impacts of the recent earthquake in Myanmar are yet to be fully understood. Students might want to discuss causes, impacts and ongoing responses to the disaster whilst being sensitive to the huge personal loss and tragedy for so many. However, exploring in real-time, real stories at this time can help foster empathy and reconnect young people with humanity

GCSE Geography - change to the marking of 2-mark calculate questions

As communicated previously, we are continuously reviewing our assessments to ensure they are accessible and fair to all candidates. As a result we are confirming a change to the marking guidance for 2-mark 'calculate' questions.

If a student gives the correct answer, they will automatically get 2 marks. If the answer is not correct, the marker will look at the working and will award 1 mark for evidence of correct working.

Please note you do not need to change anything you are doing in your delivery, nor prepare your students differently for 2025 exams and beyond.

We're publishing new editions of our GCSE Geography textbooks for each specification at the end of April 2025.

Pearson Edexcel (9-1) GCSE Geography 2nd edition will give you access to the newest, and most up-to-date textbook available. The updated book will reflect the most current data and world events, with fully updated contemporary case studies, and aims to support all students to become confident and engaged geographers.

Through the writing and editorial process we strive to ensure these textbooks are as accessible as possible for students. We've tried really hard in these new editions to boil down the text to the principles (it's a text heavy subject!) and to try and make the complex terminology as clear as possible. We've also aimed to break text into more readable, better organised chunks - so use of headers, shorter paragraphs, bullet lists etc.

You do not have to purchase Pearson published resources in order to deliver Pearson Edexcel qualifications. Other publishers are available.

Geographical Association Conference 2025

Come at meet the Pearson Geogarphy team in Oxford from 15–17 April 2025 at Oxford Brookes University. We'll be available on our Pearson Forum Stand 21/22 and we'll gladly answer any of your questions about our Edexcel qualifications and resources.

On Wednesday April 16, 2025 2:00pm - 2:50pm we are running a workshop Pearson Edexcel Geography: discussing future geography qualifications and reform where you will have the opportunity to discuss the ongoing Curriculum and Assessment Review and Pearson's recommendations in respect of Geography. It will recap on the latest information about the review, before giving teachers the opportunity to share their thoughts on some of the key messages and recommendations from the geography education community, such as the volume of content in GCSE, the study of climate change and sustainability, and methods of assessment.

Transform your teaching with multimedia resources from the Educational Recording Agency (ERA)

With ERA’s free video streaming platform, licensed institutions can explore a rich library of curriculum-mapped TV and radio clips tailored to GCSE, AS, and A-level teaching. To access this free resource registration is required - but is quick and simple.
