Teaching and Learning Resources

‘Citizenship Studies in the News’ aims to stimulate discussion for GCSE Citizenship Studies by considering contemporary issues and their relevance to our lives.

We have compiled a range of current news articles* and linked these to the key questions, explored in themes A-D of the specification. You may wish to investigate and integrate into your teaching practice to help contextualise key issues and bring the subject to life!

Edition 20 includes the following articles:

Theme A: Article 1 is from Sky News. Article 2 is from mi5.gov. Both explore the threat of terrorism.
Theme B: Both articles are from BBC News, they explore who Andy Burnham chose to help run the country and what he wants his new government to achieve.
Theme C: Article is from The Guardian. The Guardian examines whether police acted lawfully when searching properties linked to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, demonstrating judicial review in practice.
Theme D: Articles from  the Daily Mirror and independent news platform ‘Democracy Now!’ consider the events in France and the questions French
people are asking about their right to protest, and the legal challenges.

Edition 20

We have updated the Exam Question Overview documents to include questions from the summer series for each section on both papers.

These documents provide an overview of the different questions asked on each section over the qualification cycle so you can see how a topic has been assessed in different ways.

*You will need your Edexcel Online login to access these as it includes the most recent exam materials.

Post-Results Services

Just a reminder to use our free Access to Scripts service to view your candidates’ marked exam scripts online or download as a PDF by 11 December 2026.

Providing a rich source of information, you can use this service to help inform future teaching and learning and gives insights and visibility that performance data alone cannot provide. If scripts have been marked ‘traditionally’ (ie not online), you will need to request them, free of charge, by 11 December 2026, via the Post Results section of Edexcel Online as in previous exam series. Note, you will need 'Exam viewer' in your Edexcel Online profile if you want to download candidate scripts. Please ask your Exams Officer if you need this adding to your profile.

Discover more about Access to Scripts, along with FAQs and a step-by-step User Guide.
