Withdrawal of BTEC Tech Awards in Construction, Land-based Studies and STEM

Tue Jun 05 23:00:00 UTC 2018

We’ve received feedback from the DfE and as a consequence we’ve taken the difficult decision to withdraw some of the Tech Award qualifications, due to the level of feedback and changes required.

This means that:

  • we won’t be re-submitting the BTEC Tech Awards in Construction, Land-based Studies or STEM to the DfE
  • we have withdrawn these qualifications from the Ofqual Portal
  • they will no longer be available for first teaching in September 2018.

This was a hard decision which we considered and consulted carefully. With regret, we think this is the fairest approach to support teachers at Key Stage 4.

BTEC Tech Award in Construction

After careful consideration and due to the extent of the changes required, we’ve decided not to re-submit the BTEC Tech Award in Construction, and have decided to withdraw this qualification.

What can I teach in September 2018?

You can continue to offer the BTEC First Award in Construction, which is included on performance tables in England for 2019 results and which we are amending for potential inclusion in 2020 lists. However, we do not yet have confirmation from the DfE that they will approve it for 2020 Lists.

We will let you know as soon as we hear from the DfE.
