About the role
This apprenticeship standard is designed as a typically 18 month programme and is for apprentices who wish to gain the skills, knowledge and behavioural competences required to work in a information communication technician role.
The role of the Information Communication Technician is to deliver the efficient operation and control of an organisation’s IT and/or Telecommunications infrastructure including information systems needs (comprising physical or virtual hardware, software, network services and data storage). This will take place either on-premises or to end-users provisioned as cloud services.
This apprenticeship comprises of core occupational duties of an Information Communication Technician, and the option for apprentices to specialise in one of three roles:
Support Technician: Is a desk-based role resolving system user queries and resolving faults in a helpdesk environment.
Network Technician: Is usually a desk-based role but may involve visits to client’s premises to install and or resolve network services.
Digital Communications Technician: Is a desk or field-based role resolving faults and issues with communications systems.
In order to meet the apprenticeship standard apprentices will be required to hold or achieve:
A minimum of Level 2 maths and Level 2 English
Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment.
For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement the apprenticeship’s English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3 and British Sign Language qualification is an alternative to English qualifications for whom this is their primary language.
As both a vocational and academic awarding organisation, we can offer a wide range of English and maths qualifications in line with your standards’ requirements from Functional Skills through to GCSEs.

As an ESFA-approved Assessment Organisation, we provide a full range of assessment services, resources and support from our experienced EPA team to equip you and your learners with the diverse requirements of the apprenticeship standards.
You can use Pearson as your end-point assessment organisation, regardless of whether you choose to use our on-programme offer or not.
EPA specification is in development, due for publishing in January 2022.
The end-point assessment is made up of two components:

Project Report and Questioning
Professional Discussion underpinned by Portfolio
The professional discussion will be appropriately structured to draw out the best of the apprentice’s competence and excellence and covers the knowledge, skills and behaviours assigned to this assessment method. The apprentice will be able to refer to and illustrate their professional discussion responses with evidence from their portfolio of evidence.
Project Report and Questioning
The apprentice will conduct a project and complete a project report that is designed to ensure that their work meets the needs of the business, is relevant to their role and allows for the relevant knowledge, skills and behaviours assigned to this assessment method to be demonstrated. Questioning will focus on coverage of the project report and activities, allowing for deeper exploration of occupational competence and further opportunities for apprentices to draw out key aspects of their work.
