As part of our ongoing review of our qualifications, we've looked at the level of demand and accessibility of our GCSE Geography specifications and assessments and in response to this, we’ve made some improvements for 2024 and exploring others for the future

Developing High Quality GCSE Geography Fieldwork Experiences - discovering how you can do more with less, creating engaging and exciting fieldwork with fewer resources.

• review the synoptic themes and the Paper 3 exam structure including question types, command words and mark schemes • explore the skills needed for the resource booklet about a contemporary, place based geographical issue • discover strategies for preparing your students for the 18-mark and 24-mark ‘evaluate’ questions and demonstrating synoptic thinking • reflect on marked scripts from the 2023 A Level Paper 3 exam.

• review the topics and exam structure in Paper 3, including question types, command words and mark scheme requirements • discover the skills needed for the resource booklet about a place based geographical issue • explore strategies for preparing your students for the final 12-mark ‘justify’ question • reflect on marked scripts from the 2023 Paper 3 exam.

Developing students' critical thinking skills can help them to become more independent and understand more complex geographical concepts from a range of different perspectives. This course will introduce you to a number of practical strategies that can be adapted to different topics and year groups. You'll also hear from a Head of Geography who has successfully embedded critical thinking in her KS3 curriculum to improve student outcomes
