Moderation for Component 3 for GCSE and GCE PE
All moderators have been standardised and should be contacting their centres within the next couple of weeks. If you have not heard from your moderator by 1 March, please let me know.
We have produced a guidance document ‘Instructions for the Conduct of NEA’ - which provides support on the processes, procedures and key dates for the moderation process for both Component 3 and 4.
GCSE PE - Instructions for the Conduct of NEA
GCE PE - Instructions for the Conduct of NEA
For GCSE and GCE PE there are forms you need to complete for your moderator
- Initial Contact Questionnaire (ICQ) - this should be filled in and be ready to send to your moderator as soon as they contact you. In the questionnaire you should propose a date for the moderation (between 1 March –5 May) and the moderator will do their best to accommodate you.
- For GCSE PE you also need to complete the PE2MS and send it to the moderator at least 15 days before your agreed moderation day. In addition you must submit, on EdexcelOnline, the final mark, out of 105 (40 for A level), for all your learners. A moderator will not be able to carry out the moderation day unless all the final marks are submitted on EdexcelOnline before their visit.

Moderation for GCSE/GCSE PE for Component 4
For GCSE and GCE PE Component 4 (PEP and AoP/PDP) you will not have any contact with a moderator. Mid- April you will be able to look on EdexcelOnline and there will be a tick by the candidates who are part of the sample.
By 15 May, you must:
- submit the final marks for every learner on EdexcelOnline
- upload the work (on Learner Work Transfer) for every candidate who is part of the sample
Special consideration for GCSE PE – Component 3
For Practical Performance, if the centre has formally assessed the candidate(s) and awarded the mark during the course of study it is not required for candidate(s) to apply for special consideration. You must inform the moderator that you have formally assessed the learner in all activities, and are now injured and cannot be part of the sample. You should then submit the marks in exactly the same way as you do for every other learner.
However, if the candidate(s) has never been formally assessed in one or more activity during the whole course of study, then they should apply for special consideration.
If the candidate(s) has failed to participate in an assessment/examination without valid reason, it is expected that they will be awarded the mark of absent and special consideration cannot be requested.
For further guidance see page 28 in the Instructions for the Conduct of NEA
Instructions for the Conduct of Non Examined Assessment (NEA) - Summer 2025
Centres will need to fill in two forms:
• JCQ’s Form 10
• Pearson’s Form 10 (for practical performance)
Applications for special consideration along with the appropriate documentation, such as a medical certificate, should be sent to uk.special.requirements@ pearson.com
