Grade boundaries shift each year to reflect how the cohort performed. This summer’s boundaries were a bit higher than last year, but overall outcomes are in line with 2024 and pre-pandemic standards.

Find out more about how grade boundaries are set

If you’re looking at notional component boundaries, remember they’re for internal use only, they don’t decide final grades. Notional boundaries can give a helpful guide if planning for mocks.

We know the start of the year can be tough, especially for GCSE resit learners rebuilding their confidence and Year 12s adjusting to the step-up in challenge of A Level Maths.

In the sections below, we’re sharing some practical strategies and ready-to-use resources to help you create a positive start and keep learners motivated from day one.

Motivating GCSE resit learners is a big challenge. The good news is that studies have identified some key strategies that can make a positive difference for GCSE Maths resit students.

Using a structured scheme of work designed for resit learners can effectively re-engage students.

A standout example is the CfEM GCSE maths resit scheme, developed by CfEM college teachers and rooted in the Five Key Principles of Teaching for Mastery in FE. Available on the Maths Emporium, the full scheme includes 30 fully resourced lessons, each with a lesson plan, PowerPoint, handouts, and activities. Early lessons focus on boosting confidence, engagement, and resilience in maths.

No need to create your own worked solutions from scratch, they’re already done for you!

The Maths Emporium now includes worked solutions and student-friendly versions for the Summer 2025 exams, available in a dedicated worked solution cabinet within each qualification’s past paper cabinet.

Maths Emporium

It’s all there, ready to use, so you can spend more time teaching and less time prepping.

Boost student confidence: Use the student-friendly versions to walk learners through the logic behind each answer, helping them see how marks are awarded and where they can improve.

Support revision and intervention: Ideal for small group work or one-to-one sessions, especially when targeting specific topics or question types.

Enhance mock exam feedback: Pair these solutions with your own marking to give students a clearer picture of what examiners are looking for.

Plan lessons with precision: Spot common misconceptions and use the solutions to guide your teaching of tricky areas.

🌍 Climate Change Meets Core Maths

Looking for fresh ways to bring real-world relevance into your Core Maths lessons? MEI, in partnership with the Royal Meteorological Society, has created a powerful set of resources that put climate change centre stage, perfect for sparking discussion and developing critical thinking.

These resources are designed to help students apply mathematical skills to urgent global issues, from carbon capture to extreme weather.

🌳 Trees for Net Zero (Extended Resource) Explore how tree planting contributes to net zero targets, with extended activities that challenge students to analyse data and evaluate strategies.

🌲 Trees and Carbon Capture A focused look at how trees absorb carbon and how we can model this mathematically.

🌪️ Extreme Weather Students investigate the maths behind extreme weather events, using real data to understand patterns and probabilities.

📢 Teachers of 9ST0 - Did you know?

You can access PDFs of the old S1–S4 textbooks, mapped to the current A Level Statistics 9ST0 spec, complete with answers!

📥 Just head to the Teaching and Learning Materials section of the qualification page (final dropdown) to download the relevant zip folder and you're good to go!

If you teach A Level Maths or Further Maths, this is a must-have.

Since 2019, we’ve offered Enhanced Content Guidance documents for both qualifications packed with detailed exemplification and insights from senior examiners on every spec point. But not every teacher knows they exist.

To make them easier to find and use, we’ve now moved them to the specification section of the qualification page.

There won’t be any new mock sets for GCSE Maths or A Level Maths this year, Mock Set 10 for GCSE and Mock Set 5 for A Level are the latest sets available for now.

But don’t worry, there are plenty of alternative resources to support your mock exam planning:

🔒 Shadow Papers Produced after each exam series, these offer unseen questions with full mark schemes and worked solutions. From 2025, they’ll be securely padlocked in the Teaching & Learning Materials section to keep them fresh for mock use.

📄 November Series Papers (GCSE) Available via the Maths Emporium or under padlock on the website. These match the standard of the summer papers and come with mark schemes and grade boundaries.

🧭 Skills Maps & ExamWizard Use these tools to build your own papers by topic or skill, complete with exam data and mark schemes. Great for tailoring mocks to your learners’ needs.

📦 Mocks Service & Moderation Let us take care of the logistics with our Mocks Service, or get feedback on your marking with our Moderation Service.
