The Figure 6 which appeared in the resource booklet provided alongside the Pearson Edexcel GCSE Geography B paper 03 question paper included a map of Africa. Unfortunately, on this map, Gabon was labelled incorrectly as Republic of the Congo (Congo-Brazzaville).

We want to take this opportunity to sincerely apologise for this error and the distress this may have caused to candidates. We would like to reassure you that we do our utmost to ensure all our papers are error free, however in this case we failed to spot the error before exam day.

The question that refers to this resource is Q3c, and its focus is on Ghana, not Gabon or Republic of the Congo. The adjacent countries on the map are there for comparison/reference so that candidates can refer to them where necessary. However, this mislabelling could lead to candidates referring to Republic of the Congo in their response, which we have ensured is acceptable as correct in our mark scheme. Referring to Gabon, even though it is not labelled on the map, has been accepted as a correct response/reference too. Our mark scheme has been adjusted to reflect this and accommodate either response/reference.

We have undertaken a thorough review of candidate responses and have not found that candidates appeared impacted by this mislabelling in their responses.

Please refer to our Examiner Report document, which is published on ResultsPlus and our Qualification website for further support. We would also like to remind you that candidates and centres can request a copy of the exam scripts, Access To Script, as part of Post Results Services.

Should you have any queries about this correspondence, please do not hesitate to contact us via our support page.
