August 2026 Esports update
Welcome to the August Esports subject update.
As results day is around the corner, most learners will be heading to their centres to collect their certificates to recognise all the hardwork over the last few years. In this months newsletter you will find some guidance and support for both yourself and learners.
BTEC Standards Verifier (SV) reports provide feedback on internal assessment and verification decisions, highlighting effective practice to support future assessment and quality assurance.
These reports are available for BTEC units that are standards verified.
Original learner evidence must be kept current, safe, and secure for 12 weeks after learners have been certificated (unless specifically advised longer due to unforeseen circumstances). Please note that the 12 weeks starts once the certificates have been received by your centre.
Following learner certification, the following BTEC documentation should be retained for a minimum of three years for centre and awarding body scrutiny as required:
- assignment briefs
- assessment records (feedback sheets)
- the associated internal verification documentation
- achievement tracking at criteria and unit/component level
Reminder and new guidance for you and your students!
Your students can receive a digital credential alongside their vocational qualification this summer. We’re getting in touch with a quick reminder and some new guidance to help you make sure eligible students at your centre receive theirs.
A digital credential gives them a verified, shareable record of their achievement that they can use when applying for jobs, apprenticeships or further study.
How to make sure your students receive their digital credentials
To make sure everything runs smoothly at results time and eligible students receive their digital credential, you need to upload student email addresses in Edexcel Online.
We recommend using each student’s centre email address. Once their digital credential has been issued, students should change this to a personal email address in Credly.
If a student’s email address hasn’t been added, we won’t be able to issue their digital credential.
For students who are eligible to certificate before August results day, their digital credential will still be issued in August, as long as their email address is added before they are certificated.
NEW | guidance to support you and your students
We’ve added new, practical guidance to help you understand digital credentials and to make it easier to explain them to students.

For your students
We’d encourage you to share guidance directly with students so they know what to expect, how to access their credential and how they can use it.
To support your students, parents and carers, we have published guidance you can share regarding results days and qualification services.
Ofqual's new Can I Just Qualify That? podcast explores key topics including results day, marking, grading and qualification reform.
And their Understanding Grading Toolkit helps explain how exam papers are marked, how grade boundaries are set and how grades are awarded.
