September 2025 subject advisor update for BTEC Tech Awards, Nationals and Firsts for Early years.
Welcome back after the summer break. I hope you were able to take some time for your self.
There will be lots of new information for the new year and I will keep you updated with all the new information about the Tech Award (2022), Nationals (2016) and the Firsts. There is also information on the new Level 2 Early years Practitioner and the Level 3 Technicals Early Years Educator.
There has been changes made to the release dates of the PSAs.
This will give you more time to plan and deliver the content of the PSA.
December/Janauary moderation- released 2 June (both components)
May moderation- released 1 September (both components)
There is new training for the new year for Child development.
There will be new Getting started training events and new Marking and Moderation for both internal components.
Help students build real-world AI skills - with confidence.
Offer AI Essentials - a new, self-paced course that helps students use artificial intelligence confidently,responsibly and effectively, in their studies and in life.Created by Basingstoke College of Technology and hosted on our ActiveHub platform, it's already supported over 1,200 learners and only takes 60-90 minutes to complete.
This new qualification is for post 16 students who want to work in an Early Years setting. It provides students who complete it with a Level 2 Licence to Practice. It is on the full and relevant list for level 2 qualifications and will allow students to be included in ratio in an early years setting.
The Pearson BTEC Level 2 Technical Occupational Entry for Early Years Practitioners (Diploma) enables students to develop a purposeful combination of knowledge, skills and behaviours to enter employment as an Early Years Practitioner at entry level and provides a strong foundation for them to achieve full occupational competence with further training and development in the workplace
It is fully funded for post 16 students.
The Pearson BTEC Level 3 Technical Occupational Entry for Early Years Educator
(Diploma) enables students to develop a purposeful combination of knowledge, skills and behaviours to enter employment as an Early Years Educator and allows them to achieve occupational competence.
The qualification, which is mapped to the Early Years Educator standard, is designed to meet the needs of adult students (19+) and provides a clear line of sight to employmentin an occupation that is recognised and demanded by employers.
This is for post 19 students only.
These new qualifications can be taught now and replace the Extended certificate from the BTEC Nationals 2016.

This is only for England. Northern Ireland can continue to teach the BTEC Nationals (2016)
