October Subject Advisor Update 2024
October 2024 Subject Advisor update for L1/2 and Level 3 qualifications in Children's Play, Learning and Development and Early Years and Child Development.
Hello everyone and welcome to this update for Childcare qualifications (level 1/2 and 3). There is information here on the Tech Awards and the Pause and Reform for the Level 3 qualifications that was announced by the new Government and what it means.
BTEC Tech Award in Child Development
September release of the PSA
The PSAs for component 1 and 2 were released in September and if using you will be working through them with your Learners.
The date for uploading all the marked Learners work is 15 December.
It's a good idea to do so before this date so you can identify any problems with the upload.
There is lots of information that will help you upload your sample on the Support Index.
New Exemplar Standardisation Material
There is new ESM for child development. This is taken from the June PSA so is the most recent release. It has examples of high, medium and low attaining work and includes Lead Moderator comments. It's good to use to standardise your team or if you are a lone teacher just see where the standard is. Look at it with the PSA and the marking grids.
BTEC Nationals Children's Play, Learning and development
What we know about the Pause and Review
The pause and review that was issued by the new Labour Government does not affect the BTEC Nationals that are on the defunding list for 2025. At this time we have to carry on business as usual. We do not know what the result of the review will be. We are still going ahead with the roll out of the new AAQs and assume the old style nationals will be defunded. This means the September 2024 cohort is the last that is funded at this time. As soon as we have more information after the review in December we will let everyone know.
Training Events for the new AAQs in Early Childhood Development
This session is aimed at UK based teachers preparing to deliver the BTEC National (2025) in Early Childhood Development. This live session will meet the following objectives:
• Centres can confidently plan the delivery of the new qualifications at Level 3, based on their and their learners' needs.
• Centres have a clear view on the underpinning knowledge required to deliver the units.
• Centres identify how to use internal assessment support materials to inform teaching and learning and understand the standard.
• Centres know where to find support, via the website or specific roles within Pearson. The training provides a general run through of internal and external assessment.
