New process for additional activities in GCE Physical Education
We're changing the way you should contact us to request approval for additional activities in GCE Physical Education Unit 2: The Critical Sports Performer (8PE01) and Unit 4: The Developing Sports Performer (9PE01).
From September 2014, you should submit a new form (AA1) to request approval to offer any activity not listed in the Internal Assessment Guide (IAG). You can find the new form under the heading ‘Additional activities’ on the GCE PE subject page.
You should complete and email this form to the PE assessment team by end of October in the academic year when the activity will first be delivered.
Previously, we asked you to request approval by letter or email. We've made this change to make sure that you have reviewed the suitability of the additional activity and, if the activity is not accepted, that there is still enough time for you to seek an alternative activity.
For the list of acceptable activities, please refer to the IAG, page 52, which can be found on the GCE PE subject page under 'Teacher Support Materials'.
Before completing form AA1, please refer to the current specification on appendix 5 (page 91) of 'Guidance for seeking permission to offer additional activities', under 'Additional activities'. You can find the specification on the GCE PE subject page.
You'll also find a list of additional activities that have already been approved under 'Additional activities'. You don't need to contact us to offer these activities; you should use the published generic criteria to assess students. The same applies to any activity listed in the Internal Assessment Guide that does not have activity-specific criteria.
