Improved Standards Verification from November 2015

We have: So you can:
Improved training

Made significant investment in better Standards Verifier training, standardisation and monitoring.

Be confident your Standards Verifier is up-to-date, informed and responsive.

Be reassured there is consistency across sectors and qualifications (QCF and NQF).

Allocated Standards Verifier earlier

Started the Standards Verifier allocation process much earlier in the academic year.
Start working with your Standards Verifier as early as possible. Standards Verifier allocation started in November 2015 and we plan to complete it by the end of February 2016.

Improved sampling

Made unit sampling more flexible.

Rather than all units being sampled:

  • smaller qualification sampling will be on ONE core unit plus ONE additional unit.

  • larger qualification sampling will be on ONE core unit plus TWO additional units.
Receive feedback from your Standards Verifier on your samples earlier in the academic year.

More improvements from September 2016

We've been working with the BTEC assessments teams to understand how we can make further improvements to sampling for BTEC Level 1, First and National qualifications from September 2016.

Expect to receive further updates during 2016.

Streamlined internal assessment paperwork from January or September 2016

You can start using the simplified paperwork options for the current BTEC Nationals (2010) and BTEC Firsts (2012 and 2013) in January 2016 or wait until the new academic year in September 2016.

We have: So you can:

Reduced paperwork for Assignment Briefs by combining best practice from the QCF and NQF into one template.

Reduced paperwork for the Observation Record and Witness Statement by combining into one document.

Redesigned the assessment record to make it easier to follow.

Reduced Internal Verification paperwork

Removed repetitive signature boxes on the Internal Verification of Assignment Brief document. Guidance now given to Internal Verifiers as ‘Evidence of judgements and good practice’. Aligned questions with Standards Verifier report criteria. Reduced actions section by providing tick boxes.

Re-designed the internal verification of assessment decisions paperwork so all learners can now be included on one document.

Simplified information and removal of repetition within the Lead Internal Verifier (LIV) declaration.
