Scaling support for 2016 and 2017 specification GCSE languages
The grade boundaries for 2016 specification GCSEs (French, German and Spanish) and 2017 specifcations (Arabic, Chinese, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Urdu) are given using scaled subject marks rather than raw marks. As the GCSEs are linear, they are awarded at qualification level rather than at paper level. Guidance has been produced with tables to explain and illustrate the scaling implications.
In addition to the guidance, there’s an online converter to help you transform raw marks into scaled ones. This should prove helpful when marking mock exams and when used in conjunction with the relevant GCSE qualification grade boundaries and notional component grade boundaries.

Update on speaking endorsement
This quick update refers to the support available for this important element of the amendments made to GCSE and International GCSE language assessments in summer 2021.
You're reminded that speaking endorsement applies to GCSEs in all languages and to our International GCSEs in Chinese, French, German and Spanish.
