The government has launched an Apprenticeship Trailblazer initiative designed to make apprenticeships more attractive to employers.
The initiative aims to simplify the system and make apprenticeships more rigorous and better aligned to employers' requirements. The digital industry is one of the sectors leading the way in developing the new system.
The first standards have now been approved for:
- Software Developers
- Network Engineers
- Software Testers
- Cyber Intrusion Analysts
- Digital Marketers
- Digital Media Technology Practitioners.
New standards being developed include:
- IT Generalists
- Unified Communications
- Business/Data Analytics.

Vendor certification
All Trailblazer Apprenticeship occupations in IT will require apprentices to achieve at least one current, internationally-recognised vendor or professional certification or equivalent, as specified by the individual employer. Pearson work with the following vendors to ensure availability within the current suite of Professional Competence qualifications.
