Sector Development Forums

Sector forums for the retail and hospitality industries are being held in February and March. Over 50 centres have signed up so far to hear updates on the latest qualifications news and take part in workshops linked to the development of the Trailblazer Apprenticeship Standards. If you would like to come along, we still have spaces at the London event on 3 March.

Visit our training pages to find out more.

Trailblazer Apprenticeship Standards

The hospitality standards for Senior Chef: Culinary Arts (Level 4) and Senior Chef: Production Chef (Level 3) were signed off last summer. You can view these standards under the heading ‘Government approved sector apprenticeship standards’ on the People 1st website.

Five further standards have recently been out for consultation: Hospitality Team Member (Level 2); Commis Chef (Level 2); Chef de Partie (Level 3); Hospitality Supervisor (Level 3) and Hospitality Manager (Level 4). Find out more on the People 1st website.

The Trailblazer group also completed the consultation on the assessment plan for the two Senior Chef standards and submitted these plans on 12 February. A full implementation plan was submitted as part of that plan and once approved we will have a clearer understanding on what work will be undertaken and to what timescales. All standards will be implemented on or before September 2017, but in the meantime the current SASE frameworks stand as valid apprenticeships in the hospitality sector. We'll keep you updated as more details emerge.

Qualification extensions

This is just a reminder that all QCF hospitality qualifications that form part of the apprenticeships have been extended until 31 December 2016.

Food safety and customer service in HLTT qualifications are also extended to 31 December 2016.

The Certificate and Diploma in Food and Beverage Service Supervision (L3) can now be extended from the current date of 30 April 2015 to 31 December 2015, following the extension of a unit by People 1st. This will be carried out in the coming weeks.

Hospitality SVQs are accredited until 31 January 2016.
