New Level 5 Health and Social Care qualification

The Higher Apprenticeship SASE framework requirements have changed and, from 1 September 2014, learners will need to complete a 90-credit qualification. Under instruction from the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) and the SSC, Skills for Care, we've developed a new level 5, 90-credit qualification for the Higher Apprenticeship. The new qualification title will be:

  • Pearson Edexcel Level 5 Diploma for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (England) (QAN to be confirmed)

This qualification mirrors the existing 80-credit qualification except for the addition of the following mandatory unit – Undertake a Research Project within Services for Health and Social Care or Children and Young People.

The existing 80-credit qualification (which has the same title as the 90-credit qualification), Pearson Edexcel Level 5 Diploma for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (England) (QAN600/0744/8), will remain for a further 6 months before expiring on 31 March 2015. This is so learners already taking this qualification will not be disadvantaged; however, this qualification will not be approved for the Apprenticeship framework after 1 September 2014.

Centres will need to ensure that learners are registered against the correct qualification.
