Updates to qualifications

We have submitted some amendments on our current suite of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) qualifications to all regulators at the end of April.

There are additional optional units in all sizes around Microcontrollers and their use in Engineering as well as a new specialist pathway in our Diploma and Extended Diploma sizes in Motorsport. This takes units from our existing Vehicle Technology pathway and is suitable for an individual who wishes to enter the motorsport industry or wants to study motorsport engineering at a higher level.

We have also introduced a new size of qualification in our AME suite which is the 180GL sized Foundation Award. This has 1 mandatory unit and several optional units to select from. This size is ideally suited to an individual who would like to study engineering alongside a companion suite of qualifications (i.e. BTECs in Computing or Construction or A Levels in Maths and Physics) or as a part time programme to develop their skills or knowledge in this subject.

Before September we are also hoping to release an additional specialist pathway at Diploma and Extended Diploma sizes in Medical Engineering. Designed by NHS trusts and NHS England staff, this pathway is for an individual who wishes to work as a medical maintenance technician or retrain to work in this field. These units will also be available as standalone units for individuals who wish to specialise in specific types of medical equipment (i.e. ventilators). This qualification can be delivered as part of the Mechatronics Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship Standard until a specialist Apprenticeship standard (currently in development) becomes available for delivery.

We also have a number of qualifications that have been extended these are as follows:
