Education and Training update - October 2022
An update on everything new within the Education and Training sector.
We have previously communicated with you about mitigations for the Assessor/Verifier and the Award/Certificate and Diploma in Education and Training suite of qualifications. We have taken our guidance from The Education and Training Foundation (ETF). Our latest guidance from the ETF is the following:
Whilst there still exists a high prevalence of COVID-19 nationwide, the majority of the economy has resumed most of its normal functions. It is therefore inappropriate that the ETF should continue to issue blanket mitigations for qualifications, and therefore all mitigations regarding these qualifications will cease from 1 September 2022.
Award/Certificate/Diploma in Education and Training
Centre's are required to deliver the qualifications pre-covid restrictions, as set out in the specifications. We accept that remote delivery has become a methodology of teaching practice and the covid pandemic has challenged Teachers/Tutors to be creative with their delivery. Moving forward, our expectation for our center's is that delivery of remote and face to face is balanced to ensure the learner has a varied breadth of experiences. If remote observation will continue to form part of your model, please contact your Standards Verifier for approval.
During the pandemic we know that center's have relied on observations of practice being carried out by the learner's workplace mentor or line manager due to access restrictions. If center's continue to apply this blended model, please ensure the following:
Diploma in Education and Training (DET)
Anyone observing and assessing practice for this qualification should have all of the following:
- a teaching or training qualification equivalent to Level 5 or above (PTLLS is not enough) evidence of relevant teaching experience in an education or training context
- access to appropriate guidance and support
- ongoing participation in related programme quality assurance processes.
For QA purposes, we expect at least one substantial observation of practice to be carried out by the approved Pearson centre Assessor responsible for the learner completing the qualification
Recordings of the live remote observation must be securely stored and made available for IQA and EQA purposes.
Certificate in Education and Training (CET)
Guidance is similar to that we have provided for the DET. Due to the smaller observation requirement, face to face is our preferred option. However, if remote observations are required please contact your Standards Verifier for approval.
For QA purposes we expect at least one observation of practice to be carried out by the approved Pearson centre Assessor responsible for the learner completing the qualification
Recordings of the live remote observation must be securely stored and made available for IQA and EQA purposes.
Award in Education and Training (AET)
The micro teach should involve face-to-face delivery. However, in exceptional circumstances, we will consider a live remote session. Prior approval for this is required from your Standards Verifier
Recordings of the live remote observation must be securely stored and made available for IQA and EQA purposes.
Assessor/Quality Assurance Qualifications
In order to provide the best experience for learners, we strongly recommend face to face assessment as per pre covid restrictions. If it is not possible to undertake observations face-to-face, some adjustment may be made, subject to Pearson approval beforehand, please contact your Standards Verifier.
