Diploma in Education and Training Level 5
Expectations for the delivery of initial teacher education in FE
Who this guidance is for?
This guidance is for any organisations delivering Further Education ITE programmes, using public funding. If as a Pearson centre you deliver either of the following ITE provision, the guidance is applicable to you.
- Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET)
- Learning and Skills Teacher (LST) apprenticeship
The guidance sets out the Department for Education’s (DfE) expectations for the delivery of ITE (Initial Teacher Education) programmes in Further Education (FE).
Ofsted will carry out inspections from 2023 through their ITE framework of all publicly funded ITE, this includes DET and LST.
Ofsted’s ITE inspection framework inspection and handbook sets out inspection principles and guidance here: Guidance | Initial teacher education (ITE) inspection framework and handbook
Please read the full expectations document from the DfE here to ensure you are prepared for your inspection from Ofsted.
Registration Cap
In April 2023, we informed you about a few changes being introduced to the Quality Assurance requirements of the Level 5 Diploma in the Education and Training. Now that the Education & Training (E&T) sector has been moved to our high-risk category, we want to ensure the necessary measures are in place to reduce risk to delivery and learner certification.
With immediate effect, training providers delivering the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET) that are deemed high risk, either due to large volumes of learners and/or insufficient Ofsted ratings, will be subject to a registration cap/limit depending on the verification outcome of Standards Verification (SV) samples. Additional detail has been provided below.
Verification Outcome | Registration Cap Limit |
---|---|
Direct Claims Status | No registration cap |
Limited Certification | 20 learners per year |
Not yet fully sampled | 20 learners per year |
Remove Certification | Full registration block (until concerns are addressed) |
Please note that registration caps can be applied at any time at the discretion of Pearson.
For newly approved providers delivering the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training qualification, a standard registration cap of 20 learners per year will apply. This registration cap could be lifted once Pearson is assured your centre is meeting the necessary standards of the qualification.
If you have any queries or concerns around this, please contact us via the Customer Portal, quoting ‘Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training – Registration cap’ in your subject line.
