December 2014 update

NVQ updates to new National Occupational Standards during 2015

Following revisions to occupational standards by CITB, here’s an updated list of the NVQs to be amended before 1 June 2015.

Please note that this list includes additions from previous updates, where new Plant Operations units are included as optional units within other qualifications’ structures, therefore requiring minor amendments.

19+ funding for new qualifications

As you may be aware, we require evidence of support from employers or professional bodies in order to secure funding for adult learners for any new qualifications. We still need your employers’ support to secure SFA 19 + stand-alone funding for the following qualifications, which have recently been developed:

• Pearson Edexcel Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Specialist Installation Occupations (Construction) (QCF) 601/4793/3   
• Pearson Edexcel Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Specialist Installation Occupations (Construction) (QCF) 601/4772/6   
• Pearson Edexcel Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Steelfixing Occupations (Construction) (QCF) 601/4788/X    
• Pearson Edexcel Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Controlling Lifting Operations - Supervising Lifts (Construction) (QCF) 601/4776/3    
• Pearson Edexcel Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations Management (QCF) 601/4787/8    
• Pearson Edexcel Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management (Construction) (QCF) 601/4771/4.

Letters of support from employers need to reference the qualification number and title and confirm that the employer supports the qualification as meeting occupational competence requirements in industry for a specific occupation.

2015 projects

We are currently scoping a number of potential new developments for projects to launch during 2015. We would greatly appreciate your input into this, whether you have a particular demand from learners or employers to deliver any of the following qualifications or simply to confirm you support the proposed developments.

Engineering Surveying Operations Level 2 NVQ

Employers working on the Crossrail project have identified a need for an NVQ to cover the competence of a 'Chain person' role carrying out technical support in construction and civil engineering surveying. It would provide progression to other technical roles at level 3 in Surveying, covered by existing qualifications such as Construction Contracting Operations. Currently there are no qualifications to cover this occupation at level 2. Discussions are in place to develop this as a Trailblazer project under the reformed Apprenticeship standards.

Level 3 Building Multi-Trade Refurbishment and Repair NVQ and Technical Certificates

This would offer a progression route from Building Multi-Trade Repair and Refurbishment (which replaced the Building Maintenance NVQ in November 2014).

Streetworks qualification

A competence qualification leading to the new streetworks act as a licence to practice, we’re currently scoping demand to see if this can be developed.
