GCSE and A level update
The DfE has announced details of subjects it wants developed for first teaching in September 2016, alongside the ‘EBacc’ subjects already confirmed for 2016.
For GCSE, these subjects are: Religious Studies, Design and Technology, Art and Design, Drama, Dance, Music, Physical Education, Computer Science, and Citizenship Studies.
For A level, these subjects are: Religious Studies, Design and Technology, Drama, Dance, Music, and Physical Education.
Subject experts and awarding organisations will work together to draft subject content for these GCSEs and A levels. The DfE will consult on their recommendations for content and Ofqual will consult on its recommendations for assessment later in the year.
The Religious Studies Team at Pearson will be reviewing the current GCSE and A level RS qualifications and the Ofqual subject criteria for GCSEs and A levels in RS with teachers, subject experts and universities. This research will inform future development of new Religious Studies qualifications.
