Materials to support transition from GCSE to A level RS

The time following GCSEs offers a unique opportunity to engage students and prepare them for the challenging debates they can look forward to at A level RS.  To support you with this, we've included a range of discussion topics, including content stimulus, key questions, further reading and research suggestions.

The activities included in this document are designed  as a teacher facing resource which can be adapted as you need. The intention is to help students consolidate and expand their knowledge and understanding of topics covered in Pearson Edexcel’s Religious Studies GCSEs, to aid their transition into our A and/or AS Level Religious Studies courses.

We hope you find them useful!

(*These are intended as a teacher resource as they include links to content that some may find distressing which can be directed by teachers as appropriate)

RS Topic of the Month

Topic of the month aims to stimulate discussion at Key Stages 4 and 5 and bring religion to life. This can be achieved by considering religion’s relevance in our vast modern world. We have selected a current news article which you may wish to read and integrate into your teaching practice, using the discussion prompts provided.

This month, we include an article looking at the new Disney Marvel superhero Kamala Khan and ask 'Can religious tradition align with a modern lifestyle?' and a second article looking at a farm based on Jewish principles of stewardship and ask 'How could a religious lens support conservation?'
