GCSE (9-1) Mathematics
6 week revision programmes

Looking for a ready-made intervention programme?
Now is the perfect time to start students on one of our 6 week revision programmes.
Each resource pack comes with teacher guidance, student intro pack, weekly task booklets and a tracking spreadsheet to monitor progress.
"Aiming for" practice papers
Re-ordered papers, exemplars and shadow papers
Two of my favourite activities to support exam preparation use these key resources.
10 min Chunks uses the re-ordered papers and helps students to build up resilience and develop a range of exam techniques. Students work on short 10 min chunks of exam questions at a time with a different, clearly defined objective for each 'chunk'.
For example, the objective for the first 10 marks could be "to get full marks or as close to full marks as possible'" Then, as questions ramp in difficulty, a later objective might be "to do the first step for each question", or to "find 5 'can do' marks" from a bigger chunk of harder questions.
In You're The Examiner, students use the exemplar materials to develop a much deeper understanding of the mark schemes and how to break down multi-step problems. After having a go at the question themselves, students work in pairs to mark the exemplar responses and feedback to class. There are lots of opportunity for rich discussion in this activity. A great follow up to consolidate learning is to then get students to attempt the associated shadow question to see if they can now get full marks.
Exemplar Materials powerpoints are available for the June and November 2024 series.

Papers, papers and more papers!
We know that the key to successful exam preparation is for students to get as much practice as possible working on exam standard questions. That's why, in addition to the usual past papers, we also have a range of other papers for students to practise on.
Exam style questions for Statistics and Mechanics
New for 2025 - brand new topic tests with exam style questions on each of the areas of the 9MA0-31 Statistics and 9MA0-32 Mechanics content

Top Tips and Exemplars
Share tips and guidance from the senior examiners with your students with these resources.
Our exemplar powerpoints make for a great exam preparation activity getting students to attempt and mark a question before working together to mark and feedback on the exemplar responses. Consolidate learning from this exercise by getting students to then attempt the associated question from the shadow papers.

GCSE Statistics shadow papers

Shadow papers for the June 2024 series of GCSE Statistics are now available!
These papers are a valuable source of additional assessment material that have the added benefits of being unseen by students and able to be reliably used with the June 2024 grade boundaries.
You could use these shadow papers as a full set of papers to run an additional set of mock exams, or as an additional set of 'past papers' for students to complete in class or at home.
Alternately, you may wish to use them in class to consolidate learning and assess progress made since a previous mock. Below are a couple of suggestions for how you could do this:
- Using QLA from previous mocks, identify individual questions/topics for improvement and provide targeted support and practice (e.g. using themed practice papers). Follow up with students completing the associated shadow questions under exam conditions to assess their progress.
- Use the Exemplar Materials to review original questions, mark schemes and examiner comments before students mark and discuss the exemplar responses. Once this activity is complete, consolidate learning by getting students to attempt the associated shadow question.Incorporate shadow questions into revision lessons and retrieval practice in the lead up to exams.

Guidance for a Pass grade for Summer 2025 exams
Our guidance for a Pass grade for Level 2 Extended Maths certificate Summer 2025
The skills required to achieve a Pass grade for Level 2 Extended Mathematics Certificate are broadly aligned with those required for a grade 7 standard in GCSE (9-1) Mathematics. These are applicable for the areas of Mathematics that are being extended in the Level 2 Extended Maths Certificate.
Students working at a ‘Pass’ level will be able to perform single and multi-step procedures accurately by recalling, applying and interpreting notation, terminology, facts, definitions and formulae. They will also be able to generate strategies to solve mathematical problems by translating them into a series of processes.
A typical Level 2 Extended Maths Certificate Pass grade student will be able to demonstrate a range of mathematical skills which may include examples from the following non-exhaustive list:

Over the coming months, we'll be continuing to work with our Senior Examining team to provide as much detail as we can in the form of grade descriptors for a Pass grade as well as for a Merit, Distinction and Distinction* level.

What is the Advanced Extension Award (AEA)?

The aims and objectives of the AEA qualification are to:
- challenge the most able advanced level students by giving them opportunities to demonstrate a greater depth of understanding, analysis, evaluation and problem solving than that required at GCE Advanced level with no additional study or learning required
- be accessible to all able students studying for GCE Advanced Level in Mathematics
- help differentiate between the most able students, particularly in subjects with a high proportion of A grades at GCE Advanced Level in Mathematics.
