New Tech Award ESMs for Components 1 and 2

There are new Exemplar Standardisation Materials available for Component 1:  Exploring the Performing Arts and Component 2:  Developing Skills and Techniques in the Performing Arts.

Component 1 high, medium and low examples include Curious Incident and Emancipation of Expressionism.

Component 2 high, medium and low examples include a costume designer for The Magic Flute, a dance performance of Nutcracker! and a drama performance of Girls Like That.

We hope you find these useful.

BTEC Level 3 development teacher involvement

We will be starting to develop new qualifications for Performing Arts and Production Arts - which won't have T-Levels - later this academic year. We are hoping to be able to offer both small and large alternative academic qualifications (AAQs) from 2026.

The current range of level 3 qualifications we offer in the sector will still be available and fully funded until 2025. These include Performing Arts, Performance, Performing Arts Practice and Production Arts Practice.

We would like to invite you to help influence this next generation of BTEC Nationals. We want to ensure we capture the teacher and learner voice in our qualifications and support materials.

We have proposed dates and times for these focus group meetings. If you would like to be involved, please complete the forms below.

Tech Award 22 Bitesize videos

To help you with teaching and assessing the internal components, understanding how moderation works, and preparation for Component 3, we have created some short Bitesize videos.

You can access them on the Tech Award Performing Arts 2022 qualification page or below

 BTEC Nationals Exemplar Work

We have some examples of top, middle and low marked work for Unit 3: Group Performance Workshop and Unit 5: Individual Performance Commission to help  you with preparing your students for the tasks this academic year.

BTEC HN Flex

From 2025, centres will have the opportunity to open your doors to more adult learners who are looking to access modularised learning to upskill in their current role or reskill to follow a dream of working in an entirely different industry.
The Lifelong Learning Entitlement will allow learners to access loan funding to return to HE, and Higher Technical Qualifications will be the first programmes to be eligible.
As Pearson has a wide range of BTEC Higher Nationals that have been approved as Higher Technical Qualifications, you can start preparing for the LLE by exploring our HN Flex offer, where you can begin to offer your learners the opportunity to take individual units from HNC or HND qualifications.
If you’d like to find out more about Higher Technical Qualifications, or learn about HN Flex and how it can benefit your centre, get in touch.

Hofesh Shechter Company BTEC resource pack

There's a brand new podcast available from Pearson Performing Arts and Drama.

In conversation with Hofesh Shechter Company: Lucy Moelwyn-Jones and James Shaw from Hofesh Shechter Company talk to me about the new BTEC Performing Arts resource for Political Mother Unplugged, Hofesh Schechter Company's latest work. They have produced a brilliant resource which includes a recording of the work, plus interviews with the key creatives and a lot of useful info for students taking the Tech Award, Unit 1 Investigating Practitioners Work, and many other units.
