Here is your April 2024 update with all the latest news on our BTEC Performing Arts qualifications.
In this update you will find information on:
There's some good news - we are moving the submission deadline for the upload of learner work for BTEC Tech Awards in the summer series to 15 May 2024. This change applies to internally assessed components for all Tech Awards and the externally assessed components in creative subjects. This 15 May submission deadline will remain in place for all May/June assessment series going forward.
This revised deadline will give you two more weeks to run, mark and upload internal assessments, and gives you extra time to upload work for external assessments in the creative subjects.
The Learner Work Transfer (LWT) system opens on 15 April, so there’s no need to wait until the deadline to upload learner work; once LWT is live, you can upload learner work at any time until the 15 May deadline.
Due to the later submission deadline, the deadline for you to submit amended marks following moderator feedback will move to 28 June. This is an optional service available, should you choose to use it, but is not a requirement.

We now have the Lead Examiner reports available for BTEC Nationals Units 1 and 7 and the Principal Moderator reports for Tech Award Components 1 and 2.
These reports include an overview of the specific tasks for the January 24 series, guidance on good practice, and much more.
We have a high mark example of work for Component 3 that you mind find useful.
We also have examples of strong acting performances for Component 3 available too.

For anyone interested in the Level 3 reforms and what it means for Performing Arts and Production Arts, here is some recorded guidance. I spoke about the changes at the Drama and Music Education EXPO a couple of weeks ago.
This guidance covers all level 3 courses offered by Pearson Edexcel and BTEC, plus UAL, OCR, RSL etc.
There is a training support page for the Tech Award, where you can access past training event recordings and bitesize videos to support the delivery of BTEC Tech Award in Performing Arts 2022, including:
An Inspector Calls by JB Priestly, starts a nine month UK tour in August 2024. This National Theatre production will visit over 25 cities and town across England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
There's a very comprehensive education pack to accompany the tour too - it could be very useful for Tech Award Component 1.

In conversation with Hofesh Shechter Company: Lucy Moelwyn-Jones and James Shaw from Hofesh Shechter Company talk to me about the new BTEC Performing Arts resource for Political Mother Unplugged, Hofesh Schechter Company's latest work. They have produced a brilliant resource which includes a recording of the work, plus interviews with the key creatives and a lot of useful info for students taking the Tech Award, Unit 1 Investigating Practitioners Work, and many other units.
